The First Descendant: False AFK Reports Tarnish Gaming Experience

  • Reading time:3 mins read

Players of The First Descendant are facing a growing issue: being wrongfully accused of AFKing (away from keyboard) during matches. This trend has led to frustration, toxicity, and even player departures, according to recent discussions on the game’s subreddit.

The First Descendant: Unfair AFK Accusations on the Rise

One player, goomptatroompta, shared a typical experience. After a brief pause to adjust their loadout at the start of a fortress defense, they were met with accusations and hostility from teammates despite actively contributing to the team’s success. “I healed all of them as well as the objective throughout the waves and we made it to and survived wave 7 mainly because I was healing it,” they explained.

Other players echoed similar sentiments. Some were reported for AFKing while diligently defending objectives, while others faced criticism for taking short breaks to manage their inventory. The Kingston Defense mission, in particular, seems to be a hotspot for these conflicts, with players often adopting different playstyles that can lead to misunderstandings and accusations.

The reasons behind these false reports are complex. Frustration with game mechanics like repetitive farming or unreliable loot drops can contribute to a tense atmosphere. Moreover, differing playstyles and a lack of understanding about optimal strategies can exacerbate the problem.

As one player put it, “It’s kinda awkward. God forbid you are checking your inventory for a second, or you don’t have all your modules perfectly maxed and equipped all the time, they start whining and leaving and throwing and screaming.”

While genuine AFKing is a valid concern for the community, false accusations can have serious consequences. They can damage player morale, foster a toxic environment, and even lead to player attrition. It’s essential for The First Descendant’s developers to address this issue by implementing clearer reporting guidelines or in-game systems to verify player activity.

By promoting understanding, respect, and fair play, the The First Descendant community can work together to create a more enjoyable and welcoming experience for everyone.
